Schrader Heritage Clone To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

$800.00

Sourced from a single block in the To Kalon Vineyard, this “Heritage Clone”
produces impossibly small clusters with tiny berries and very low yields. The quality
of the fruit, however, is indisputable – producing wines of great intensity, complexity,
and character that have proven compelling enough to keep these vines in the ground
for decades. Densely fruited and plush with lively acidity for balance, this is an
elegant and expressive wine that offers a provocative range of flavors such as ripened
red cherries, chocolate shavings, mandarin orange rind, and sweet earth.

Vintage: 2021

ABV: 15.4%

Tasting Notes

This vintage had all the elements of a classic Napa Valley vintage, and for many, it offered redemption from the devastation of 2020. Throughout harvest, Thomas was very impressed with the colour and concentration of the fruit we harvested. The quality of our fruit is a testament to the diligence and attention to detail of our vineyard team, who had their work cut out for them in a vintage that was, at times, wildly variable and marked by lingering drought and some unseasonable and sustained periods of high temperatures. These same elements that challenged our vineyard teams also created an ideal environment for our vines to produce low yields of small, intensely flavoured berries that achieved peak ripeness and marked complexity. In crafting our 2021 wines, we aimed to showcase the balance of power and poise that we feel will be the hallmarks of the vintage.

Vineyard Notes

First planted in 1868 by viticultural and winemaking icon Hamilton Crabb, To Kalon Vineyard has long been regarded as the source of Napa Valley's finest Cabernet Sauvignon. Our Heritage Clone Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a single block planted to a unique and exceptional clone with a rich history. The clone was isolated in the 1980s as part of a project led by UC Davis to identify legacy and historical clones of exceptional quality planted in vineyards throughout California's major winegrowing regions. The clone can be traced back to the 1950s and is thought to possibly date all the way backto the 1860s, when H.W. Crabb planted the original To Kalon Vineyard.

Awards & Accolades

98 Pts. "This shows the heft and scale of the bigger wines in this vintage but adds an element of floral lift and sparkly energy. Its boysenberry, fig and mulberry preserve core is dotted with mouthwatering details of iris, licorice snap and lavender. Offers a gorgeous mouthfeel, with an overriding velvety texture offset by hints of crumpled violet. Drink now through 2050."
